FPCNYCThe last in the Covenant Network’s series of ten regional conferences is coming up Saturday, May 11.   Featuring two accomplished attorneys who have been active in working for equality for the LGBTQ community, “What Now: Marriage Equality for Presbyterians and Everyone Else” will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in the City of New York, with the support of Presbyterian Welcome.

  • Attorney David Boies, along with co-lead counsel, brought a landmark civil rights case to trial in 2010 challenging California’s Proposition 8.  Judges at both the federal district and appellate levels have concluded that Proposition 8 violates the U.S. Constitution. The case was argued before United States Supreme Court on March 26th with a ruling expected in June.
  • Attorney Doug Nave, a member of the Covenant Network Board of Directors, has argued numerous cases in Presbyterian Church courts for LGBTQ equality

The 2013 national Covenant Conference, “Marriage Matters,” will continue the conversation about marriage equality happening in New York City on May 11 and at the other regional conferences.  Preliminary information about the national conference, to be held at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago October 31-November 2, is posted here.
