Celebrating the Life of Gay Mothershed
Gay Mothershed, Vice-Moderator of the 208th General Assembly, distinguished Christian educator and mid-council leader, died at the age of 85. A renowned leader and visionary in the church, she advocated for education and justice for all God's people. Her tireless efforts to promote equality contributed to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) across congregational, mid council and national levels.Sharing her vision for a better future through education, she provided a visible presence and powerful voice for Christian educators. Mothershed also expressed her heart for justice in her work for the Covenant Network of Presbyterians, where she served on our early committees and widened the welcome of the Church. Her leadership as Vice-Moderator of the 208th General Assembly was instrumental in shaping the direction of the church.In honor of Mothershed's life, her family has requested donations to Union Presbyterian Seminary, Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, or any charity. Her impact on the Church endures through the countless lives she touched and inspired throughout her life. Her unwavering dedication to education, justice, and inclusivity will continue to support educators in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and beyond.
