Celebrating International Transgender Day of Visibility

Today, we celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility and the full spectrum of gender expressions and identities on display among God’s children.

In a time of fear and hatred sometimes expressed by people in positions of power, and sometimes misusing the language of faith, we remember with the 2018 General Assembly that “the image of God expansively and specifically includes people of all gender identities including transgender, cis-gender, gender non-binary people, and people of all gender expressions.” We celebrate that truth and rejoice in the lives, accomplishments and dignity of trans people in the Church and in the world. We call on all people to commit to protecting the rights, dignity and quality of life of our siblings.

As a network of Presbyterian congregations and church leaders, the Covenant Network of Presbyterians is working toward a world in which trans, non-binary and genderqueer people can be ever more safely and joyfully visible in the Church and in the world.
