Connect with CNP at General Assembly 22
This summer, the Covenant Network of Presbyterians celebrates its 25th anniversary, celebrating our work seeking to strengthen the church by ensuring it welcomes and affirms LGBTQIA+ people in its life and leadership.
Even at this year's hybrid General Assembly, we'll be active, and we invite you to join us by receiving our email, following us on social media, and—if you'll be in Louisville—saying hello in person!
If you are, or if you know, a commissioner or advisory delegate (or anyone else) who should be on our mailing list to receive a handful of emails over the next few weeks, email Brian Ellison, executive director (brian@covnetpres.org) to let him know. We'll stay in touch about our hopes for this assembly and opportunities to connect in person while the assembly committees are meeting in Louisville.
If you're a commissioner or advisory delegate or you're coming to Louisville...
We're excited to see you!
The Covenant Network is urging the Assembly to support a number of proposals before it. To read more about our views on General Assembly business, you can click on the following articles, including:
- Our call for a return to primarily in-person General Assembly meetings that bring the whole church together, which is one important item before the General Assembly Ministry Coordination Committee.
- Our hopes for other business in the General Assembly Ministry Coordination Committee, especially giving attention to the language we use in the church for people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. We also encourage the updating of a landmark study paper on families.
- Our support for a proposed addition to the Matthew 25 emphases before the Financial Resources Committee that would lift up intersectional work to combat gender discrimination/heteropatriarchy.
- Our affirmation of two important resolutions before the Race and Gender Justice Committee particularly their naming of the plight of transgender women of color and their call for concrete steps for equity to be undertaken by church agencies.
We'd also love to meet you! Executive Director Brian Ellison will be in Louisville for much of the two-week period when committees are meeting. We're presenting three opportunities to connect in person with Brian, with friends and board members of the Covenant Network, and with each other! Join us at the Galt House at the end of the day to raise a glass to our 25th anniversary and share some conversation about our work at and beyond the General Assembly for equity and inclusion in the church. Here's where we will be... There are also lots of additional ways you can be supportive of our work at General Assembly and beyond to ensure the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) doesn't take any steps backward in its embrace of the LGBTQIA+ community in the coming days and years...
- Lift up the work of the 225th General Assembly (2022) in prayer as it gathers this weekend to convene, adopt policies and procedures thatwill guide its work, and elect co-moderators.
- Monitor the recommendations and decisions of the Assembly and connect with other justice-minded Presbyterians as they seek to lift up principles of inclusion, affirmation and access in social media and conversations
- Consider a financial gift that makes the ongoing advocacy work of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians possible. Your support in any amount is meaningful; a gift of $250 or more in this 25th anniversary year would have a profound impact!
