General Assembly: Register Now!
Registration is now open online for the 219th General Assembly (2010), meeting July 3-10 in Minneapolis, MN. The Covenant Network will be present in Minneapolis, praying for the PCUSA and offering support to commissioners and advisory delegates as we witness to our vision of a church as generous and just as God's grace. We hope that you will join us! Before you register, you'll want to check out the schedule of activities; don't miss purchasing tickets for these events:
- The Commissioner Convocation Dinner is a great way to learn about how to make an impact during the Assembly. Hear CovNet Director Doug Nave, an attorney with a keen understanding of Presbyterian polity, followed by table conversation about what the week will bring. The dinner will take place Friday, July 2, 6:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, near the Convention Center at 1200 Marquette Avenue.
- At the CovNet Luncheon, Monday, July 5 at noon in the Minneapolis Hilton, journalist Gustav Niebuhr will be the featured speaker. Associate Professor of Religion and the Media at Syracuse University and author of Beyond Tolerance: Searching for Interfaith Understanding in America, Dr. Niebuhr will deliver an address entitled "Tolerance Is a Floor, Not a Ceiling."
If you cannot come to Minneapolis, in addition to your prayers you can enhance our witness by encouraging your presbytery's participants to attend our events. Please consider offering to buy tickets for your commissioners. This GA will consider a wide variety of business, including the proposal from the Form of Government Task Force, reports of several other special committees established by the 218th GA, and overtures submitted by presbyteries and synods - to date, over a hundred (not counting concurrences) - all of which deal with issues of concern to Presbyterians and thus important to the Covenant Network. To follow issues before and during GA, go to pc-biz, the same online program that will be used by commissioners and advisory delegates as they do the church's business; at the moment, click the Explorer tab and then the Search button, and you will find the business posted to date.CovNet's work of providing support and resources to commissioners and advisory delegates requires scores of volunteers. Some tasks can be done in an hour or two, or we can put you to work for the whole week, or anything in between. Please be in touch with National Organizer Tricia Dykers Koenig for more information.
