Covenant Congregation Celebrates 100 Years

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Northminster Presbyterian Church of Evanston, a congregation in our affirming network of churches.

One of the many exciting ways this church has grown and changed in that century includes the public witness to God's love for all people, including LGBTQIA+ people. Northminster's advocacy for LGBTQIA+ people played a large role in widening the broader denomination's welcome in marriage and ordained ministry.

"When Northminster was founded … if you had told them that 100 years from then, the senior pastor would be an openly gay man and the associate pastor would be a woman, they would be rather shocked at that...but that’s part of the progression.”

Despite these changes over time, the church has held true to the core values of investing in Evanston and sharing the love of Christ with the community.

It is with immense joy that we join Northminster in celebrating their milestone.
