So Much Left to Do

This past weekend, Executive Director Brian Ellison preached and taught at longtime CNP congregation Ridgefield-Crystal Lake (Illinois) Presbyterian Church. We especially appreciate the invitation of Pastor John Dillon and hosts Joan Jensema and Linda Peel among this joyful community of saints committed to inclusion and justice for LGBTQIA+ people!

In preaching from Mark 10:46-52 about the "extreme hospitality" of Jesus toward a blind man named Bartimaeus, Brian asked, "How could you show extreme hospitality? An amazing thing happens when Jesus stops to welcome Bartimaeus with intentionality and grace.... Immediately he regained his sight and followed Jesus on the way." After the worship service, a class called So Much Left to Do: The Journey Toward Affirming LGBTQIA+ People in the Church outlined the journey of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the broader church in celebrating the lives of all God's people and their gifts for ministry. A roundtable discussion explored the way forward and how each of us can contribute to a more faithful witness to equity and hospitality.
