Highlighting Covenant Network Congregations
The Covenant Network is proud of the congregations that have made a commitment toward a church as generous and just as God's grace by affirming the Call to Covenant Community. Here are brief snapshots of a few of our newest Covenant Network congregations:
Balmoral Presbyterian ChurchMemphis, Tennessee
"We are called to connect, communicate and care for each other, the community we live in, and our world ... we are people who listen for God’s call and go in the direction God sends us." A few of the ministries of Balmoral Presbyterian Church, "Where the Spirit Takes Flight," include celebration of worship and the arts, a Clean Water Mission to Mexico, consistent volunteering at the Mid-South Food Bank, and plans to provide hospitality to voters who will enter the building when it serves as polling place.
Guilford Park Presbyterian ChurchGreensboro, North Carolina
"We believe that we strengthen the body of Christ by embracing diversity, working for justice, and serving our neighbors." Guilford Park Presbyterian Church, "celebrating Christ with open minds, loving hearts, and serving hands," has a preschool, 14 ministry areas devoted to congregational care, a mentoring and recreation program for formerly homeless young men, and mission trips for adults and youth, to name just a few of their activities. They support PCUSA mission co-workers in Brazil and Mexico.
Christ Church Uniting,
Disciples and PresbyteriansKailua, Hawai'i
"E komo mai! Welcome!" declare the people of Christ Church Uniting. "CCU is committed to being an inclusive, progressive church a place where a broad spectrum of persons, perspectives and spiritual paths are welcome to join together in a spirit of Christian fellowship and exploration. This doesn’t mean we all agree: we affirm that we are all on our own journey of coming to understand who we are, who God is and what God wants from us as a church. What it does mean is that LGBT people are welcome to worship and lead within our congregation and that their experiences, ideas and opinions will be equally respected here alongside the many diverse identities and experiences that reflect the diversity of God’s creation." Other priorities include environmental stewardship and faith-based community organizing.
