Building a School in Liberia
Noble Road Presbyterian Church is an enthusiastic Covenant Network and More Light congregation. Glenville New Life Community Church considered leaving for a denomination that they considered more theologically compatible, before discerning God's call to stay in the PCUSA.In a powerful witness to the joy of sharing Christ's love, the two joined together to lead a worship service that energized the Presbytery of the Western Reserve at its March meeting. A spirited choir and liturgical dancers from Glenville provided music that rocked the Cleveland, Ohio sanctuary; the stiffest 'frozen chosen' always limber up at Glenville! The sermon was a team effort by NRPC Pastor Francis Miller and Elder Isaac Monah, sharing the vision that inspired NRPC to begin building a school in civil war-scarred Liberia. The mission to build Dougbe River Presbyterian School of Liberia began as Monah's dream to make a difference in his former country, has captured the imagination of his congregation in Cleveland Heights, and is gaining support from others in the Presbytery and community. In November, Monah and Miller traveled to Liberia to secure the deed for the land on which to build the school; the Cleveland Plain Dealer carried Miller's blog about their experiences.
