The Rev. Dr. Mark Achtemeier, author of The Bible’s Yes to Same-Sex Marriage: An Evangelical’s Change of Heart, discusses his journey with the Scripture in this four-part video series. A discussion guide and lesson plan for a young adult group are also included in this link.

Dr. Achtemeier explores a key element of making sense of the Scriptures on this or any other topic–understanding the purpose of their instruction. What did God make marriage for — and how do same-sex marriages fit that purpose?
3. Hearing God’s Word as Blessing
Dr. Achtemeier examines each of the biblical fragments often interpreted as forbidding same-sex marriage; in them, he finds something quite different.
4. Sexual Ethics and the Church Today
Dr. Achtemeier finds historical precedent for the church rethinking how it understands biblical commands in a new day, and he offers a word of hope for the church reclaiming its voice to offer a truthful and hopeful word about sexuality.
