On Saturday, November 9, join Presbyterians from across South Carolina for “Making Space at the Table: Faithfully Responding to Gender and Sexuality” from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This Covenant Conversation will equip faith leaders and congregation members with resources for taking the next steps in navigating important conversations and creating more welcoming spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals.
This event will be at Shandon Presbyterian Church, 607 Woodrow St, Columbia, SC 29205. Workshops may include:
• Intersectionality and LGBTQIA+ Inclusion in the Black Church (or in Churches of Color)
• LGBTQIA+ 101 : Intro to sexual orientation and gender identity
• Practical Steps for Expanding Our Welcome
• Biblical and Theological Support for Inclusion
• The Pending Amendments and LGBTQIA+ Inclusion in the PCUSA
• Supporting Youth/Young Adults Who Are LGBTQIA+, and their friends and families, in Churches
A service of worship will incorporate inclusive liturgy and music. At the end of the day, participants will have opportunities to share ideas, hopes and commitments. Registration is $20, including lunch, and $15 for those who register 3 or more from the same church. Childcare available if requested by November 1.
