Confessions shape us, and our life and ministry in the church, more than we realize.  2016, with the adoption of the Belhar Confession by the PCUSA and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Confession of 1967, may prove to be a kairos time for the PCUSA.

cliffbro (2)Stated Clerk Emeritus and CovNet Board member Cliff Kirkpatrick will lead us in exploring these issues at the 2015 Covenant Conference, November 5-7 at Central Presbyterian Church in Denver.

As Cliff reminds us, these confessions challenge and offer the church

  • a fresh vision of our life together in unity, justice, and reconciliation,
  • a strong imperative to overcome racism, and
  • an ethos to help the Covenant Network’s vision of a Church as “generous and just as God’s grace” to come alive among us.

Together, we will focus at the Covenant Network’s national conference on how we might live together into this kind of church.  Find more information and the link to register here.

This is a unique time in our history.  At a time in which we as a church have taken action to welcome and fully include LGBTQ Christians in all aspects of the life and ministry of the church and, at the same time, have experienced a resurgence of racism at home and promotion of American exceptionalism abroad, God has indeed given us these confessions to shape our life together and our faithful witness for God’s justice in our world.
