As the Presbyterian Church (USA) lives into the reality of changes in our ordination standards, the Covenant Network of Presbyterians commits to celebrating God’s gracious welcome to those lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Presbyterians whose gifts can now be fully received into ordained leadership.
Following the changes to ordination standards in 2011, the Covenant Network began a project called A Season of Welcome, inviting pastors and other church leaders to tell their stories and share how their gifts have blessed the denomination. These stories feature accounts of faithful LGBT Presbyterians who have been serving in our churches but now feel empowered to live more openly, as well as accounts of those who are newly responding to God’s call to ordained leadership because of the changes in G-2.0104b.
The Covenant Network believes these stories illuminate the many gifts that our whole denomination experiences when we shape a church as ‘generous and just as God’s grace.’
We still invite others to add their information to the Season of Welcome (anonymously or openly), as well as to share their personal stories about their experiences in the life of the PC(USA). Please contact Executive Director Brian Ellison to add your story.
Friends and supporters also have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing work of the Covenant Network in honor of those whose gifts for ministry are now able to be fully recognized and celebrated.
